Athletes racing Sunday need downtown proximity for the 4am wake-up and 7am swim start — that’s a hotel-district decision. The Canyon is built for the rest of the weekend:
- The family and support crew. Cheering points open around the city, but the family doesn’t need to be five blocks from the start line. Basecamp 1 hour north, drive in to spectate, come back to quiet.
- Pre-race training camp. Athletes riding into race week can basecamp on the plateau, ride the surrounding country, and be at the athlete village Friday afternoon for check-in.
- Post-race recovery. Sunday evening or Monday morning, trade the downtown chaos for 447 private acres, a hot tub on the deck, and a real bed. That first proper sleep after 140.6 miles matters.
