If you’re planning a Fall Creek Falls trip and want somewhere better than a cabin off the highway, Dome 6 is the one we point couples to. It’s a geodesic dome on 447 private acres of Cumberland Plateau, 25 minutes from the park entrance — with a private hot tub, a valley view, and a bluff-top trail that starts at your back door and leads away from every other dome on the property.
The Valley Dome
Domes 1 through 3 look down into the canyon. Dome 6 faces the other direction — it’s the closest dome to the Sequatchie Valley, and the view from the deck opens up instead of dropping off. From the hot tub, you’re looking out over one of the prettiest valleys in Tennessee. At night, with no town in sight, the sky over the valley goes properly dark.
A Trail of Your Own
This is the thing guests don’t expect. Walk out the back door of Dome 6 and a trail runs along the top of the bluff, heading away from the rest of the property. No other dome shares it. Morning coffee on the bluff edge, an evening walk before the fire — it’s the most private stretch of walking on the property, and it belongs to whoever’s staying in Dome 6.
The Fire Pit
Every dome here has a fire pit. Dome 6 has one of the best setups on the property — the kind of spot where a two-hour fire turns into a four-hour one. Firewood is currently included with your stay, on us.
Inside the Dome
The main bed is a king, up in the loft — and you reach it by ladder. We’re upfront about that: if a ladder before bed isn’t your thing, Domes 3, 4, and 5 have their main beds on the ground floor. For most couples, the loft is the best seat in the house — you’re sleeping up in the curve of the dome.
Downstairs there’s a queen sofa bed, so the dome technically sleeps four, but it’s built for two. You also get a full-size refrigerator (most of our mid-size domes have compact fridges), an efficiency kitchen with a two-burner stove, air fryer, and microwave, an outdoor grill, and a full bathroom with hot water and real pressure. Real bed, real shower, towels plusher than you’d expect this far down a gravel road.
Your Base Camp for Fall Creek Falls
Fall Creek Falls State Park is 25 minutes away — home to a 256-foot waterfall, one of the tallest in the eastern U.S., plus swinging bridges, overlooks, and some of the best day hiking in Tennessee. Most Dome 6 guests do the park as a day trip: hike in the morning, swim below Cane Creek Cascades in summer, and be back in the hot tub by late afternoon.
And here’s what most Fall Creek Falls lodging can’t offer: when you get back, you’re still somewhere worth being. The Canyon has its own waterfalls, blue holes, and trail network down into the gorge — plus 150+ climbing routes on the cliff below the property if that’s your thing. What to Know Before You Book
The honest list. The main bed is up a ladder — beautiful up there, but not for everyone. The last two miles in are single-lane gravel mountain road; AWD does fine, 4WD does better, and sedans aren’t recommended. Bring groceries — the nearest store is 15 minutes away and limited, though good local restaurants are 10–30 minutes out. Cell service is weak right at the gate (download your maps), but reliable once you’re at the dome.
