Dome 1: Where This Whole Place Started

Dome 1 sleeps the most people of any dome at The Canyon at Pond Creek, sits in one of the most private spots on the property, and has the best fire pit we own — a rock outcrop with views up and down the canyon. It’s also, for what it’s worth, the reason any of this exists.

Inspiration Point

A few years back, before there were domes here, the owner spent a full day pushing through 447 overgrown acres with a machete, trying to decide whether to buy this land. As the sun started dropping, he came out onto a rock outcrop at the canyon’s edge — nervous about the dark coming on fast, and at the same moment completely certain he’d do whatever it took to make this property his. He and his wife have called it Inspiration Point ever since. They know the name’s generic. It also happens to be true: that spot inspired everything that’s been built out here since.

Dome 1’s fire pit sits on that outcrop. When you’re out there at night with the canyon running away in both directions, you’re sitting in the exact spot where this place got decided.

Room for the Whole Crew

Inside, Dome 1 is built for numbers: a California king on the main floor, two full beds up in the loft, and a queen sofa bed — sleeping six comfortably, eight at full capacity. It’s one of only three domes with a full-size refrigerator, which matters when you’re feeding that many. The kitchen is an efficiency setup with a two-burner stove, air fryer, and microwave, plus an outdoor grill. Full bathroom with hot water and real pressure, private hot tub on the deck, fire pit on the outcrop, firewood currently included.

Privacy at Scale

Big groups are usually the loud ones — which is why Dome 1’s position matters. There’s more than 300 feet of woods before the next dome, so your crew can be a crew without anyone shushing the kids at the fire. It’s the rare combination on any glamping property: the most beds and one of the most private settings.

What’s Out There

The property’s trail network runs from the rim down to the canyon floor — waterfalls, blue holes, a creek to follow, and a 100-foot cliff with 150+ bolted climbing routes below the rim. Off property: Fall Creek Falls State Park is 25 minutes, Savage Gulf is 35, Chattanooga is an hour, Nashville and Knoxville are two. The Pikeville area guide has the full list, from hang gliding to farmstands.

What to Know Before You Book

The two full beds are up in the loft, reached by ladder — perfect for kids and fine for most adults. Eight is the true max, and the eighth person is on a sofa bed; sets of two domes (Dome 1 plus Dome 2, or the path-connected Domes 4 and 5) work better for groups of ten or more. The last two miles in are single-lane gravel mountain road — AWD does fine, 4WD is better, sedans aren’t recommended. Bring groceries for the whole stay; the nearest store is 15 minutes away and limited. Cell is weak at the gate, reliable at the dome.
